Objective:	Students will be able to determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how the author acknowledges and responds to conflicting evidence or viewpoints.
Warm-Up:	Quick Write In your reader/writer notebook please write to the following prompt: Background: On this day in 1872, Scotland competed against England in the first international soccer game. The game ended with a tie (draw). Prompt: What is your opinion of ties? When is it OK to end in a tie? When is it not OK to end in a tie? Things to Ponder: Sports Arguments/Debates Politics
Classwork:	Argument Pre-Assessment Students will re-read the two argumentative texts titled: How Homework Benefits Students and Down with Homework, and then answer multiple choice questions centralized around the text.	Standards Addressed: RI. 8.6 and RI. 8.8.
